The author contends that a nation should require all students to study same national curriculum until they enter college. However, the following essay will argue that this may not always be the case. Admittedly, the author’s assertion that standardization curriculum may be effective might hold true under certain circumstances. For example, uniform and standardized curriculum help students be prepared with adequate knowledge and skills efficiently and effectively. In addition, same national curriculum is standard to compare students and it is more efficient to take assessment. And also, If the curriculum is decentralized, it is possible to discrepancy between region and region, then student might have difficulty when they transfer to another schools. Accordingly, based on the above example, the author’s claim seems plausible to some degree. However, the author’s assertion that standardization always provide benefit for student education may be challenged for the several reasons. National curriculum is uniformity, therefore, it is lack of flexibility and average standard of curriculum is too easy for someone or too difficult for someone. Decentralized curriculum’ advantage is differences, it means that curriculum could be adjustment according to students various interest and could offer diverse education to students. For instance, in South Korea, there are several specialized schools. The purpose of specialized schools is that government grow up elite students to be helpful to the nation in the future. So these schools are focus on student’s specific interests such as language, art and science. In science specialized schools, students can improve their science knowledge due to diverse science curriculum such as physics and chemistry. In the United States, there are similar types of schools called magnet schools. The magnet schools have different curriculum by the class and therefore, students can improve their education skills at their level. For this reasons, the author’s claim does not stand true all the time. In conclusion, based on the aforementioned discourse, the author’s claim has come truth within it; however it is undeniable that it does not always hold true for all situations. |
